Beaches in Malta

The clear blue sea is Malta’s undisputed asset. Since Malta is a small island, no place is distant from both sandy and rocky bays and beaches.

Almost in all beaches one can hire deckchairs, beach umbrellas or water sports equipment in order to practice water sports such as windsurfing, sailing, scuba diving and jet skiing.

For those who are more adventurous, there is nothing better than diving! It is well known that Maltese waters are enchanting! Well-known places include Zurrieq, Ghar Lapsi or Cirkewwa.

Gozo is one of the few remaining Mediterranean islands still totally unspoilt. It is a haven for divers from all over the world. The warm crystal clear waters ensure near perfect diving conditions to enjoy the drop offs, caves, tunnels, grottos and spectacular scenery for which Gozo is renowned.

Popular Beaches

Are largely concentrated in the northwest of Malta.  Among the most popular are Ghajn Tuffieha, Mellieha Bay, Golden Bay, Paradise Bay and Gharmier.  Armier Beach is situated in the extreme northeast of Malta with few facilities and occasional rough swells but lots of sand.  Ghajn Tuffieha Bay is sandy and less crowded than Golden Bay Beach yet only a short walk away and reached by steps.  Golden Bay is the most popular beach on the island after Mellieha Bay because of its extensive stretch of sand.  Mellieha Bay, that is 2km north of Mellieha is entirely suitable for children due to it’s shallow water and the large amount of sand.

Children at Beaches

Parents should keep an eye on their children while swimming as under currents is quite common.  They should be cautious to prevent children getting badly sunburnt.
An abundance of casual eating outlets serving pizzas, hamburgers and chips makes eating out with children an easy affair.
