This is a small hotel in a residential area close to the university and the gigantic (on the Maltan scales) Mater Dei hospital. The hotel offer accommodation for a very good price in clean rooms which are also prepared for self-catering use. The inroom wifi connection is excellent. The continental breakfast is simple, but ok. The hotel has a terrace with a small pool. There is a bus stop 1-2 mins from the hotel, but this is served by only one bus that runs infrequently. However instead there is.

However with the "Mater Dei 1" stop very close to the hotel you get ideal access to all of the island. (This would not be the case in Sliema, for example: for quite a few directions, you would have to first take a bus to Valletta, then further to your destination.). the location is not good for taking bus. it is difficult to find place to eat especially at night. We arrive the hotel at night, and only find one bar which close to hotel, but their food is terrible. try driving , not bus. Sound tends to travel through the hotel, as when some inconsiderate clients kept banging their doors instead of shutting them quietly. Nothing I can think of. Small rooms. The design acts like an echo chamber carrying conversations from reception into the rooms upstairs. Noise from other guests, very noisy toilet system - we knew when other guests were using their toilets etc!. The showers kept going scalding hot to cold and after repeated complaints nothing was done. The sound insulation is very poor and I could hear virtually every sound outside the room. The cleaning staff allowed every door they walked through to slam behind them. Difficult to find on foot. Construction of the building means sound travels too easily from room to room and even up from lower floors. Result difficult to get a good nights sleep.
